Gatherings
Many churches are defined by what they do when they meet. But to figure out Exilio you need to understand that we are defined by what we are like when we are not meeting.
You see it appears that 'worship' is not an option for us humans. We all do it - even Richard Dawkins! For better or worse we centre our lives around something or someone - often ourselves! And then we pour our energy into it. Whether it's our career, our sex life, our family or our looks - it becomes the 'idol' we worship.
However Jesus tells us we were created to have him at the epicentre of our lives. We were designed to worship him - and it is only when we live that way that life really make sense. However to live that way is both counter cultural and counter intuitive...
So at Exilio we like to think of worship in two ways: gathered, where we gather in large and small groups to learn about Jesus and respond to him together, and scattered, where we spread throughout Southampton to seek God’s glory through the everyday stuff of life.
Our gatherings are inspirational times - but they do not define the community. They are however really important times in the life of the church and give a wide-angle view not only 'who' we are - but also 'why' we are.
