International
We are delighted to welcome people from right around the globe to our city. As a seaport Southampton has a long history of being a cosmopolitan, multi-faith city. At the universities alone there are over 100 nationalities represented amongst the 47,000 students, and almost as many languages spoken.
The Exilio community recognises that, whatever our nationality, in a sense we too are exiles, and we are committed to express the kindness Jesus has shown us to those who have come to our city.
Coming to a city like Southampton can be a very lonely experience. One of the biggest barriers to integrating into British life is difficulties with communicating fluently in English. For this reason we have set up a TESOL group to teach English to speakers of other languages. The group is led by Lindsay Dove and is held in the Warren Centre. This group is far more than just about learning English. There are opportunities to go on cultural trips, or gain an insight into British home life. It is a place of fun and laughter. A place where friends are made.
